Area Welcome
Area 1 Welcome
WELCOME TO AREA 1!

Hello, I'm Barry Rix and it is my privilege to be Area 1 Governor 2010/11.

I will endeavour to carry on from Sue Coppens-Brown in supporting our clubs, Speak Easy at Martlesham, Ipswich Electrifiers, Camulodunum in Colchester and Chelmsford Speakers, my home club.

This year will no doubt also see our fledgling club Woodford Green reach charter status, and possibly, the formation of another new club too - exciting times.

I am fortunate to have an excellent Assistant Area Governor in James McGinty, Graham Frost our Division G Governor, and the experience of so many Toastmasters within our respective clubs. I value you all, and look forward to serving and working with you, throughout the year.

Personally I joined Toastmasters International to help in my recovery from stammering. Learning a technique to control a speech impediment is one thing, But I lacked communication skills, due to the years of avoiding speaking situations, because of the fear and embarrasment of stammering.

The self development programme that Toastmasters provides is fantastic, and I do not believe it can be equalled anywhere else. Who would have thought just eight years ago, that I would find myself in this position - NOT ME.

It has never been a better time to be part of Toastmasters, so if you are interested in joining, or just want to see what we are about, our clubs are always pleased to welcome visitors.

Contact details for each club, can be found on this site, simply let us know that you would like to attend.

Let us then, 'Inspire with passion'

Welcome to Division ‘G’!

Hello, I’m Graham Frost, and from July 1 2010 until June 30 2011 I have the privilege of being Division ‘G’ Governor for Toastmasters International within District 71 – the UK and Ireland. Division ‘G’ covers a large geographic area between part of Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, North West London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Lincolnshire.

If you are interested in joining Toastmasters International and have found your way to this page – Welcome! I joined Toastmasters in 2003 because I needed the confidence to speak in front of large groups of people, and I have found that Toastmasters International provides the quickest acting and most cost-effective self development programme in the world. (I am indebted to a fellow member for that last sentence!). You will find information on clubs in your area here and I hope to meet you soon!

If you are already a member of Toastmasters International in the UK and Ireland, I pledge to do all I can to help our clubs look after their members well in my year as Division Governor. My contact details are below – please feel free to contact me if you have any ideas on how I can achieve my pledge.

I am fortunate to have two excellent Assistant Division Governors in James McGinty, our Immediate Past Division ‘G’ Governor, who is staying on the team to support and develop our new clubs, and Ann Nunn, Immediate Past Area 25 Governor, who will be organising our two annual Division ‘G’ contest events.

You can contact me on 01733 311288 or 07766 916317 or by email at tmgrahamf@hotmail.com

We are fortunate to have a great team of 6 Area Governors in Division ‘G’ – I will let them introduce themselves on their Area pages!

Warm regards,

'Inspire with Passion'

Message from the District Governor

I walked into my first Toastmasters meeting in August 1999 and was amazed at the energy and passion I found there amongst the members. I was also amazed at the nerves and anxiety I personally was feeling! That was okay though because everyone was so enthusiastic about what Toastmasters could do for me that it put me at ease. Because their energy was so infectious I know it was on that day I found my passion for this organisation and I have been inspired ever since to pass it on.

The passion is strongest when we meet new people and share with them the journey that we are on and how it all started. Like Ralph Smedley, we all start small and build upon our skills as we go. These are not only communication or speaking skills, these also include leadership skills which form a very important part of the journey for the members and leaders of our District!

As a member of District 71 you are part of a bigger team which consists of over 6000 members! Welcome to the family! As a member of this team I think it is important for us to be connected so I want to share with you an exercise called the 'String Game'. It is my belief that every member in the District is holding a piece of the District 71 String. As long as we all hold our part of the string tightly then we remain connected and supported as a team and we work together towards our goals! As soon as anyone drops their part of the string we then become disconnected and unsupported.

I am passionate about Toastmasters and what is does for our members, what it has done for me and the potential it holds for those who don't know us yet! I think it is infectious and I challenge everyone to hold their part of the District 71 string TIGHTLY! Pass on your passion to those you meet, your friends, your family, your colleagues and give them a new piece of the string!

You will be amazed at just how inspiring you can be when your energy and passion is passed on! It will drive us towards success with our Members, our Clubs, our Areas, our Divisions and our District.

Here's to a great year of inspiration, passion and achievement and to a fully connected Inspire With Passion District Team!

Passionately yours!
Teresa Dukes, DTM
