Welcome to Fabulous Fifteen
Who are we?We are Toastmasters North East and Yorkshire and in 2010-11 we're going to put our Area firmly on the map as a place to speak successfully, learn with love and have fantastic fun whilst achieving accolades.
We have strong, successful established clubs - Leeds City Toastmasters, York Eborators, Strictly Speaking Harrogate and A1 Speakers. Come along and experience a delicious mix of experienced and novice speakers talking about both serious and fun subjects during both prepared and impromptu speeches.
We have a vibrant and exciting community of new clubs - Kingston Communicators Hull, Sheffield Speakers, Doncaster Toastmasters and Elvet Speakers Durham. If you're an experienced speaker come along and give them your support. If you're just getting going come along and meet a group of fellow travellers.
Area 15 is a growing part of Division E, which covers Scotland, Wales and the bits of England that aren't the East Midlands, South East or London (more or less). Division E Governor (and the person who is supposed to keep me in order) is Phil Heath from Leeds City Toastmasters and Strictly Speaking Harrogate - one of us in other words. When you get chance ask him about the benefits of experiencing Toastmasters beyond your Club boundaries, beyond Area 15 and beyond Division E.
And who am I? I'm your 2010-11 Area Governor. I was a Charter Member of Leeds City Toastmasters in 2002. I am a founder member of York EbOrators. I was Head of Frivolities for the White Rose District Conference in 2009. Above all, I am passionate about Toastmasters, about supporting the brilliant clubs in Area 15 and making sure that we are effectively represented at District Council.
In 2010-11 let's work together to fix Fabulous Fifteen firmly on the map.

A Welcome to Division E
Phil Heath DTM
This years theme is about inspiring people - people from all walks of life - inspiring them as individuals to become better speakers and communicators. Previous Division Governors Jim, Michael and Jane have inspired me to take on the challenge this year. To try and become a better leader, to offer my support to the members of Division E to do the best they can this year.
I believe that the key to our Divisional success will be in the hands of the individual member - whether they want to deliver a powerful oratory from the professional stage or whether as a shy, quiet person they want to learn how to use their voice in a way that they can be heard. To me the power of Toastmasters is unending, we are all learning from each other and I believe that the support we give in a friendly, unthreatening environment, the coaching and feedback is probably the most powerful inspiration we can give.
Think not just of speaking but how you can also give back to others by effective evaluations, by joining in the meeting organisation or by being a club officer - in other words - giving others the benefit of your leadership.
Leadership involves ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Inspiring members to strive to achieve the highest award they can during the Toastmaster year, both on the Communication and the Leadership tracks. It involves motivating the Clubs to achieve the highest award they can on the Distinguished Club programme, and set out the plans for the year to achieve those goals. Finally, it involves me as the Divisional Governor lending my support to the Area Governors in their quest for their Clubs to be the most successful they can be.
Division E is still the largest in District 71, and the fastest growing. I would like to see the hard work that all of you as members and visitors to our clubs up and down the country (literally!) is recognised this year. We can be the best - making sure that Clubs are strong and vibrant, and the number of newly chartered Clubs continues to grow at an increasing rate. I also believe that we should have fun while we do this.
So my challenge goes out to you all. Do your best - the very best you can achieve. Recognise that Toastmasters can play a valuable part in all of our lives. Tell as many people as possible and share this experience. Inspire others as you want to be inspired yourself and have a great year.
Your friend in Toastmasters
Phil Heath

| Message from the District Governor |
I walked into my first Toastmasters meeting in August 1999 and was amazed at the energy and passion I found there amongst the members. I was also amazed at the nerves and anxiety I personally was feeling! That was okay though because everyone was so enthusiastic about what Toastmasters could do for me that it put me at ease. Because their energy was so infectious I know it was on that day I found my passion for this organisation and I have been inspired ever since to pass it on.
The passion is strongest when we meet new people and share with them the journey that we are on and how it all started. Like Ralph Smedley, we all start small and build upon our skills as we go. These are not only communication or speaking skills, these also include leadership skills which form a very important part of the journey for the members and leaders of our District!
As a member of District 71 you are part of a bigger team which consists of over 6000 members! Welcome to the family! As a member of this team I think it is important for us to be connected so I want to share with you an exercise called the 'String Game'. It is my belief that every member in the District is holding a piece of the District 71 String. As long as we all hold our part of the string tightly then we remain connected and supported as a team and we work together towards our goals! As soon as anyone drops their part of the string we then become disconnected and unsupported.
I am passionate about Toastmasters and what is does for our members, what it has done for me and the potential it holds for those who don't know us yet! I think it is infectious and I challenge everyone to hold their part of the District 71 string TIGHTLY! Pass on your passion to those you meet, your friends, your family, your colleagues and give them a new piece of the string!
You will be amazed at just how inspiring you can be when your energy and passion is passed on! It will drive us towards success with our Members, our Clubs, our Areas, our Divisions and our District.
Here's to a great year of inspiration, passion and achievement and to a fully connected Inspire With Passion District Team!
Passionately yours!
Teresa Dukes, DTM
