A Welcome to Division E
Jim Gregory
Division Governor 2009/2010
As the incoming Division E Governor I’m proud to represent an area that covers over half of England along with all of Wales and Scotland. It is a challenge to support a Division with Clubs from Torquay to Inverness, or as I put it, from Lands End to John O’Groats – well almost.
I believe that the key to success in life is what Toastmasters is all about – Communication and Leadership.
Communication involves understanding what others are saying and they understanding you. Fulfilling this as a Division Governor means listening to the Members, Clubs and Areas I support and communicate their opinions, concerns and approvals to the District Executive.
In addition, it means making sure all Members, Clubs and Areas receive all requests, suggestions and reminders from District Executive.
Leadership involves inspiring Members to strive to achieve the highest award they can during the Toastmaster year, both on the Communication and the Leadership side.
It involves motivating the Clubs to achieve the highest award they can on the Distinguished Club programme, and set out the plans for the year to achieve those goals.
And finally, it involves supporting Area Governors in their quest for their Clubs to be the most successful they can be.
Division E is the largest, and the fastest growing, within District 71, and the chief goal of the Division Governor is to increase this level of growth still further. This will be done by making sure that existing Clubs are strong and vibrant, and the number of newly chartered Clubs continues to grow at an increasing rate.
Division E fully commits to the District theme for the year,
Jim Gregory

| Message from the District Governor |
For 2009-2010 the D71 theme is Find Your Voice.
Im sure many of you remember your first Toastmaster meeting. The fear of the unknown perhaps? Will they pick on me to speak? I want to say something but Im too afraid of the sound of my own voice. Like myself and many others you may never have been given a real opportunity to find your voice until you attended your first Toastmasters meeting.
As an organisation the idea of helping people to put their thoughts, desires and opinions into words and speak them in front of others is the very cornerstone of Toastmasters International. Through the skills we develop in Toastmasters we learn to communicate better with those around us, develop leadership skills we didnt know we had and grow stronger in our personal and professional relationships.
Giving more people the opportunity to find their voice, is what drives many of the objectives we work with as a District Leadership Team of Club Committees, Area Governors, Division Governors and members of the Executive.
- Its why we want to increase our membership and grow new clubs
- Its why we want to recognise and encourage achievement through communications and leadership awards
- Its why we want to ensure quality training for our leaders throughout the District.
As leaders within this great organisation you are key to all of the above. Don't underestimate what you can achieve and how much of an impact your efforts throughout this year can have on developing new skills and above all in helping others to develop theirs, overcome fears and find their voice.
I look forward to working with you in the year ahead and hope that I and the other members of the Executive can serve you well and ensure D71 continues to grow and also help you Find your Voice
Joe Gibbs
