Fareham & Portsmouth's most welcoming speakers club
President's Welcome
The fact that you are here and reading this probably means you are based in Hampshire and interested in public speaking for some reason.
It could be that it is one of your fears that is now holding you back in your career or stopping you from doing something else you want to do. Alternatively, it may be that you love it, want to do more of it and get even better at it. It might even be that you have aspirations to become a professional speaker.
Wherever you are on your journey, Solent Speakers club can help you with the next step because some of our members are likely to have taken it before you.
From personal experience, we know that the ability to engage, entertain, even enthral an audience is not a gift you are born with but a skill you learn. It’s just like anything else you may have learned, whether how to drive a car or how to read; it simply requires the willingness to have a go, the commitment to keep at it and the openness to learn from others. At Solent Speakers we will support you not to step out of your comfort zone but to step into your growth zone.
For my year as President, I have chosen a simple formula to serve as a slogan: practice + feedback = excellence.
Personally, I have benefitted and grown hugely through my membership of Solent Speakers Club. I only joined in 2009 and in 2011 I was the Dorset / South Hampshire Speech contest champian and the South East region runner-up. Although you may not wish to enter competitions, I and my fellow club members would love to encourage you on your particular journey.
The best way to find out what the speakers club is all about is to come along to one of our meetings at the Lysess Hotel in Fareham as a guest. For more information, please contact us. There will be no pressure, no commitment, just a warm welcome by a friendly group of peoplehaving fun and learning at the same time.

About our club
Solent Speakers club exists to provide opportunities for people like you to boost their self-confidence, acquire and develop public speaking skills and become better communicators and leaders.
The club was launched in December 2002 and we are the only club of its kind in the Fareham and Portsmouth area providing structured practice and constructive feedback in an informal, no-risk environment.
We are affiliated to Toastmasters International, the leading, worldwide, not-for-profit organisation of speakers clubs dedicated to developing communication and leadership skills.
If you want to 'fire the fear' and find the fun, try us out!
We are a not-for-profit community club - helping individuals (or groups) to 'make their messages memorable'
If you think we might be able to help, please contact us. Our 'catchment area' includes: Fareham, Portsmouth & Central South Hampshire, Meon Valley and The Solent.
The Toastmasters Mission A statement of shared values
Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:
The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.
